Over The Hedge
Based on the popular comic strip by Michael Fry and T Lewis, Verne and his woodland friends awaken from their long winter's nap to discover that a tall, green "thing" has mysteriously cropped up right through the middle of their yard. That's when RJ, an opportunistic raccoon (Bruce Willis), tells them that just beyond the hedge they'll find food and all the good things of life. But the ever-cautious turtle Verne (Garry Shandling) wants to keep his friends and family safely on their side of the hedge. Besides he's both suspicious and even a little jealous of the mischievous con-artist raccoon who tries to convince them that there is little to fear and everything to gain by venturing into the world of their new neighbors - the humans who live in the house beyond the hedge.

Eventually, RJ and Verne form an unlikely friendship as they learn to co-exist with, and even exploit the strange new world of suburbia. The other voices featured in this delightfully animated ecological comedy include: Steve Carell (TV's "The Office") as a hyperactive squirrel named Hammy; two-time Emmy winner William Shatner (TV's "Boston Legal") as Ozzie, a possum who excels at playing dead with a melodramatic flair; recording artist Avril Lavigne as Ozzie's daughter, Heather; and Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy ("A Mighty Wind," "Best in Show"), who are the porcupine couple Penny and Lou, with a family of little porcupines to feed. Comedienne Wanda Sykes ("Monster-in-Law"), is the voice of Stella a sassy skunk; two-time Oscar® nominee Nick Nolte ("The Prince of Tides") is Vincent, the bear; and Omid Djalili ("Casanova") is a spoiled Persian housecat named Tiger.

The real people are voiced by: Allison Janney (TV's "The West Wing") as Gladys, the president of the local homeowners' association who hires Dwayne "the Verminator" (Thomas Haden Church "Sideways") the pest control expert to get rid of the pesky woodland critters. Although the film is aimed more at a younger audience than Dreamwork's other very successful "Shrek" movies, there's still plenty to please older family members in this colorful tale.
