Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
At the end of Madagascar Alex the performing lion (voice of Ben Stiller), Marty the wisecracking zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the sensitive giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the fabulous hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), all refugees from the Central Park Zoo, were stranded on the isle of Madagascar. The tough-guy penguins, who came along have now fixed up an old crashed airplane to fly them all back home. But the plane gets as far as the plains of Africa, when crashes again.

On the African savannah, Alex finds his dad Zuba (Bernie Mac) and mom (Sherri Shepherd). To be allowed to stay in the pride, Zuba's rival, Makunga (Alec Baldwin), demands that Alex perform various rites of passage. Misunderstanding what he must do, Alex performs the crowd-pleasing dance number that he used to do at the zoo, which results in his being banished from the pride because "real lions" don't dance. Meanwhile  Gloria has a hot-and-very-heavy flirtation with the extra-large Romeo, Moto Moto (will.i.am), which sends the sensitive Melman into a tailspin of jealousy.

Many of the other characters from the original film are back including the hilarious penguins led by the supremely insane Skipper (Tom McGrath),  and the party-hearty lemurs (Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer and Andy Richter) . A score of pop songs ranging from Barry Manilow to Ennio Morricone put a goofy spin on all the action as each of the animals' comical issues are ultimately resolved.

Even for computer animation, the colors in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa are particularly rich. Kids will love it and adults will be happy to find there's nothing particularly obnoxious in this lively and quite entertaining movie.
