Coraline with Dakota Fanning: DVD Cover This visually spectacular, high-definition stop-motion 3-D animated feature with its dazzling design, is based on the best-selling children's book by Neil GaimanCoraline Jones (voiced by Dakota Fanning) is a small but spunky 11-year-old, with blue hair and stick-like limbs, an only child who feels neglected by her parents (Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman) who write garden-catalogs. They have just moved into a ramshackle old boarding house whose other tenants include two faded actresses, Miss Spink (Jennifer Saunders) and Miss Forcible (Dawn French), and Mr. Bobinsky, a Russian acrobat (Ian McShane) who has his own rodent circus.

When Coraline walks through a secret door in her new home, she discovers an alternate version of her life, but it looks an awful lot like home. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life; only much better. But when this wondrously off-kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous, and her "other" parents try to keep her trapped there forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home  and save her real family.

Coraline, a glorious marriage of stop motion and 3-D was written and directed Henry Selick ("Monkeybone") who worked with Tim Burton on  The Nightmare Before Christmas. One of its most memorable assets is the haunting score by French composer Bruno Coulais. This is a visually spectacular and whimsically ghoulish delight that all but the youngest family members will enjoy.
