Poets House presents programs for children, ages 4-10, as well as a
schedule of special events, including visits with authors and
illustrators, writing and craft workshops, and poetic adventures of all
kinds. Supported by the Larry & Myrna Goodman Fund for Children’s
Programs, all programs for children at Poets House are free.
Ongoing programs for children:
- Tiny Poets Time, a poetry reading for toddlers, every Thursday starting at 10:00am
- Class visits by appointment only
The Constance Laibe Hays
Children's Room is a playful, creative space filled with
the best of children's poetry books as well as old-fashioned
typewriters, a card catalogue filled with
poetic objects to trigger the imagination and inspire
writing, stuffed animals and cozy reading areas.
Free poetry programs for children featuring
renowned children's authors and illustrators are
offered throughout the year.
Weekly Poetry Reading, for ages four to ten, Saturdays starting at 11:00am. Select Saturdays feature guest poets and illustrators or other special events; a schedule is below.

and under and their adults.
Children and their adults are also invited to visit during Children’s Room hours, Thursday–Saturday, 11:00am–5:00pm.
Free class trips can also be arranged. Thousands of
school children, from the Bronx to Brownsville, have
visited Poets House for guided tours of the Children's
Room and the Reading Room that include writing
exercises, close readings of poems and viewings of Poets
House exhibitions. A special thanks goes to Con Edison
for support of children's programs at Poets House.
