Standing where William Penn came ashore in 1682, Independence Seaport Museum interprets the rich maritime history of Philadelphia and the United States. International and national in scope, the Museum explores all maritime subjects, from commercial shipping and ship-building to navigation, immigration, defense, and underwater exploration. The Museum offers interactive exhibits and two historic ships that are National Historic Landmarks: the 1892 cruiser, Olympia, from the Spanish-American War and a World War II submarine, Becuna. Pennsylvania’s only working boat-building shop is also here. Engaging programs and special exhibits lead visitors on an exciting journey of discovery through maritime history and traditions. REGION: Philadelphia County, Philadelphia PA.
